Social Media Images

Nowadays life is fast but information travels at the speed of a Tweet. If you want to stay in the know, you need to keep yourself one step ahead of the curve and be connected constantly. Not only that, but if you have a brand to advocate, in order to truly penetrate your market you need to use a little bit of basic psychology.

First of all, just because you post something, it doesn’t mean that it will be read, watched or clicked on. Heck, depending on the time of day, it may very well just go and be ignored. {Side Note: Post links in the evenings – except between 6 and 7pm-  especially on Tuesdays and Thursdays }

Here’s the meat and potatoes of this post (click for larger image):

Lots of great information in one simple graphic from M Booth Communications! In a nutshell, photos and videos are quickly becoming the de facto form of sharing information and creating interest. How can you best harness this growing visual trend to gain exposure? Easy. Here’s some of my own tips that you can consider:

  1. Pinterest Board Contests: Best for large businesses in the entertainment industry.
  2. Instagram Campaigns: Different tactics like Photo of the Day, hashtags or product placement all are great avenues for exposure and discovery.
  3. Foursquare Advertising: Offer digital coupons for patrons or special items for those that check in. Offer an additional incentive by having patrons take photos of their merchandise / food and add it to their check-in.
  4. YouTube: When people follow your digital brand, they begin to feel like as if they are a part of your company (which is definitely the case…they ARE consumers!) Therefore, by giving your consumers a behind-the-scenes look at events, how-to’s or other shenanigans, they can truly see your brand in action.
  5. My favorite “secret” weapon? I am absolutely in love with If This, Then That. No, it’s not a Social Media network but it is a fabulous way to keep all your Social Media in sync with each other. For example, if you take a picture on Foursquare you can send that ONE update to Facebook, Tumblr, WordPress and more simultaneously. This increases your level of penetration and you don’t have to manually post the same update more than once.

Always remember the “social” part of Social Media; engage your fan base by commenting, responding and reposting. Hope some of you use the tips and tricks I listed; till next time, happy posting!
