3634462128_1e155c056a_b If you don’t subscribe to Philosophers Notes, you should. If you can’t buy his awesome MP3’s or PDF’s, then subscribe to his email newsletter…it’s amazing. I’ve mentioned this before, so if you’re not subscribing already, hop to it!

Anyways, the newsletter for December 23rd compares soul searching to mining for gold or diamonds:

“Only by much searching and mining are gold and diamonds obtained, and man can find every truth connected with his being if he will dig deep into the mine of his soul.” ~ James Allen from As a Man Thinketh

I’ve been telling everyone lately that I really need to figure out what the heck I’m going to do with my life. One of my goals for the incoming year is to develop a ‘life map’ for myself.

Brian asks some questions to get the thoughts going:

What would you do if you weren’t afraid?

I’d live on my own with my son. I’m scared because I love my partner deeply, but I can’t be putting my life perpetually on hold for him. We are a great match (I think) but our goals are vastly going in different directions.

What are your greatest strengths?

I think I’m a really fast learner. Sometimes I surprise myself. I also pride myself with thinking deeply to the point of almost altering my own perception of reality. Life isn’t all about fashion and silly things you know.

What are 5 things you’re most proud of?

  1. Being one of the first students to be admitted to UTEP as an ‘Honors Admit’
  2. Living on my own since I was 16, and upgrading my life along the way.
  3. Having an awesome son.
  4. My drawing of Kwan Yin (which is too big to scan!)
  5. Making it through all those years alone in the darkness of my life (circa 1996-2002)

What are 5 things you will be most proud of?

  1. The success and happiness of my son’s life.
  2. The completion of my bachelor’s degree.
  3. The completion of my story ‘Trapped in the Jaws of Insanity’
  4. Completing my Correllian Clergy courses.
  5. The course my life will take.

What’s your dharma/purpose/reason for being on the planet?

I like to think that my purpose here is to discover the will of the world. I know that the world as we know it has a multitude of secrets that it wants to share, but people (including myself) have fallen away from that path to enlightenment. I get caught up with pop culture and mundane things and forget that there are much more beautiful things in the world and myself that I should be focusing on.

What is it that you, and only you, can give to the world?

This is a hard one. I think I can give the world an honest heart. Sometimes I think I’m naive, but I know I’m not. I feel very deeply. When I love someone, or if I make a friend of someone, I tend to really understand them and meld with their aura in a way that I can feel their pain and their love. I like to think that my soul is beautiful and in so many ways, I give it whole- heartedly to the world.

If you had only 6 months to live, what would you do?

I would quit work, and spend all my time with my son, doing everything possible. Travel, eat junk, go to Disney Land, visit all sorts of land marks and take tons of pictures. I’d make sure I kept a beautiful journal and write a letter everyday to my son, so that when I pass to the ether, he has an earthly tome to look back on our days together.

If you won $100 million in the lottery, what would you do?

This is one I have given a lot of thought to!! I’m sure you have too. I actually have a list:

  1. Donate to a Children’s Hospital and to Ardantane.
  2. Buy a vintage home and get it modernized.
  3. Never work again and instead pass my days at UTEP, earning every single degree offered.
  4. Commit 5 (or more!) random acts of kindness. As in, fill a briefcase with money and just give it to a stranger!
  5. Give anonymous funds to family members.
  6. Put the rest away for Benjamin’s future.

If you met a genie and he gave you 3 wishes, what would you ask for?

  1. A guaranteed happy life for my family and I for the rest of our lives.
  2. Some major financial help.
  3. The secret to unlocking the full potential of my mind and soul.

  1. Thanks for your recent comment on my blog, Crysti! This was a very thought-provoking post, with smart, hard questions and answers. All the best to you in the new year! An honest heart is very inspiring, indeed.

  2. These posts are always fascinating reading, and I deeply admire your ability to be so open and candid online. In a strange way I feel I am getting to know you, which is decidedly odd.It occurs to me though that perhaps you are too hard on yourself. You are plainly incredibly intelligent, gifted, ambitious, and have already accomplished great things. Motherhood alone is perhaps the hardest thing in the world, and yet there you are doing amazing. It is always good to look outside one's self for wisdom, but it is equally important to look within and believe in yourself. I guess that sounds cheesy, and I am no philospher, but I believe that very much.Whew, end of book!
