My body did get mangled, and I loved every second of it.

The weekend started out slow enough. As soon as David, Jose and I got in to El Paso on Sunday, we ate at Taco Tote and ordered a platter for two. Afterwards, we went to the Mesa Inn in El Paso pretty early and rested a bit. David was watching the Cowboys Game and Joser passed out in his own room.

As 7:00 PM crept up on us, we got dressed to the nines. In El Paso, dressing casual is a bit passé. It’s hard to explain in English, but the dominant style in El Paso is what is called ‘fresa’ which means ‘strawberry’ in English but never mind that. The style itself is a combination of preppy/traditional Mexican attire/metro sexual.

We went to Jaguars that night. The whole night.

100_2266 Next morning (afternoon?) we left the hotel ate breakfast at Kings X (which I thought was only a bar) and went shopping at the Sunland Park Mall. Joser was astonished by the size of the mall, and I was amazed by the size of the Forever 21. It must have been a new addition… it’s the size of a very large department store and it’s two levels of awesomeness.

In addition, we were all astonished by a chick with a kitten on a leash. At the mall. In public.  I had to take a picture:

Shopping didn’t last long as we had to haul ass to Las Cruces. We rented a motel room at the Plaza Hotel. Let me just say that if you have to stay in Las Cruces, you cannot beat the price ($39.99) and the quality (clean, huge bed, separate living room, HUGE bathroom, and refrigerator) of this place.

Less than 20 minutes after we rented our rooms, we freshened up and left to the Pan American Center for the Dethklok / Mastodon show. The local radio station was giving away backstage passes, but we didn’t make it early enough to claim some. Boo.

My Pictures

We waited outside for about an hour, but that was all fine since we got really close to the stage. Opening for the night was High on Fire. They were pretty awesome. Then Converge, which was a good band but too punk for me. Then Mastodon, which has been around for a while apparently, but I have never heard their music.  They had a very trippy video up while they were playing.

At this point, my feet were killing me. I had been standing for 3 hours already and was afraid I wouldn’t make it through the end of the show. Soon, my worries were laid to rest.

100_2299When Dethklok came out, the crowd went buck wild. Even I started jumping, yelling, thrashing, moshing and head banging to the music. It was amazing to see them play… this is pretty much my #1 favorite band, and here I was watching them play LIVE ! Too cool for words.  Here are only some of the songs they played, in no particular order

The new season of Metalocalypse has started also. The new 30 minute episodes started on November 8th with Renovationklok and it was great! The second episode of the season aired on the 16th. All Episodes and Albums are available on iTunes.

So after the concert ended, we left back to the motel and knocked back a couple of cold ones and went to sleep. The next morning was a late sleeper so as soon as we woke up, we left the hotel, ate at Blake’s Lotaburger and drove home.

Today, I find I can’t move my neck at all… I rocked really hard! 🙂  Hope to have another rockin’ weekend sometime soon!
